Rens Tienstra works as a composer, conductor, musicologist and teacher. He gained a magna cum laude doctoral degree in musicology with his dissertation Melodic Variation in Northern Low Countries Chant Manuscripts, the first of his publications examining the history and performance practice of Gregorian chant.
